Betti Ono is a cultural anchor that has contributed immensely to the success of our neighborhood in Downtown Oakland. Over the past 5 years, we have invested in and cultivated a vibrant space that empowers artists, entrepreneurs, cultural workers, critical thinkers, educators, community leaders and residents to live self determined lives.

My name is Anyka Barber. Oakland is my home. I started Betti Ono with my mother in order to create a safe space for people of color, artists and community leaders to show their work, survive and thrive. Over the years, we have featured dozens of world class and local artists, educators, critical thinkers and activists. We’ve played a key role in the success of Oakland’s Downtown neighborhood, but now, like so many other Black-owned and women of color led community arts spaces across the country, we are facing displacement.
