Tony Saunders “APPALOOSA”
Tony Saunders latest release Appaloosa on San Francisco Records is a Smooth Jazz and Soulful R&B romantic journey. Saunders bassist extraordinaire and two time soundtrack Emmy winner has recorded and performed with many greats including Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder, Ringo, Joe Sample Randy Crawford, Herbie Hancock and many others.

“Appaloosa” The Romance Continues (his follow up to “Romancing the Bass” which received worldwide attention and launched his solo career) blends a smooth mix of instrumentals and vocals which display Tony’s sense of melody and romance. It also brings together some of Saunders favorite and most talented singers and musicians. Grammy winners soul star vocalist Howard Hewett, former Chicago lead singer Bill Champlin and Santana vocalist Tony Lindsay are are all featured on the CD. Howard Hewett breaks out an unbelievable old school ballad performance on the Saunders composition “My First Love,” the R&B single. Bill Champlin re-works the Gino Vanelli classic “Appaloosa,” the title track of the CD which is is reminiscent of the Rippingtons best work showcasing Bill Hampton’s exciting guitar playing. Tony Lindsay returns with a great R&B number “I Heart You.”

The Smooth Jazz single “Sandy Shores of Monterey,” a Saunders’ instrumental composition inspired by a visit there,  transports listeners to the sand, surf and beauty of the area. Rock Hendricks, sax man with Paul Hardcastle and the Jazzmasters is featured on “Interlude in Paris” and Tom Politzer, saxophonist with Tower of Power appears on “Romancing My Life,” both Saunders compositions.

Saunders recruits Train background vocalist Sakai on Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” and also on his composition “The Question Is,” a sleek duet with Fred Ross. Saunders reaches into his Gospel roots with his tribute to the late Walter Hawkins “What is This” (one of his biggest hits), arranged by Edwin Hawkins. Hawkins family member, Lawrence Matthews, turns in an outstanding and moving vocal performance on the track. Another Saunders composition, “Falling in Love” features Roberta Flack singer Derick Hughes with a love song that could easily be a theme for any romantic movie. To round out this musical journey Saunders remembers Michael Jackson with “Lady in My Life” and ends this perfect romantic adventure with “This Love of Mine,” an easy and rhythmic instrumental with guitarist Jeff Pevar and percussionist Juan Escovedo. Each song on Appaloosa has it’s own distinct personality and all come together to create an exciting and creative body of work that makes you fall in love all over again. Appaloosa is available on iTunes and Amazon.
