The City of Oakland, The Mentoring Center and the West Oakland Youth Center joined Oakland City Council President Lynette McElhaney in celebrating the historic contributions of Oakland African Americans to American history at “Power of the People: Art & Actvism 1966-2016”. In recognition of the newly formed Black Arts Movement and Business district, the inaugural legislative reception will continue as an annual event with the opportunity to raise the visibility of community honorees and the causes they champion.
