Four hundred Black leaders and decision makers from the worlds of technology, innovation, social impact, investing and Hollywood gathered in the San Francisco-Bay area recently to activate deals and collaborations. The 5th Annual Culture Shifting Weekend in Silicon Valley brought these leaders out with the intention of doubling the $300M of deals and collaborations that the past four years have enabled.

Guests included: Creator/Writer/Producer/Kenya Barris, Sam Bright (VP, GM-Soft Goods at eBay), Tech Pioneer Ken Coleman, Kerry Kennedy (President, Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights), Peter T. Lewis (Co-Founder of Cellular One), Sarah Mensah (VP/GM Sportswear APLA at Nike), Dan Schulman (President & CEO, PayPal), Candi Castleberry Singleton (VP, Diversity Partnerships Strategy + Engagement) and Tony Waller (Sr. Director, Constituent Relations at Walmart).

Over the four-day mission disguised as an event, lead sponsor Morgan Stanley and 32 others sponsors supported the Weekend’s mission of finding deals, meeting their peers and exploring partnerships to improve diversity, inclusion and innovation on boards, in the c-suite, as well as with corporate venture, to better impact technology and business.

Programming included:

  • Tech & Society Dinner with Hollywood influencers and Tech Leaders, which explored the intersectionality of Entertainment, Tech and Culture;
  • Millennial Tech Entrepreneurs of Color Breakfast hosted by which 15 entrepreneurs with traction presented to a room of interested funders, VCs and corporate brand leaders;
  • Think-Action Tank themed Sports, Tech & Wellness sponsored by Nike;
  • Culture Shifting Awards hosted by Hollywood producer/writer/director Chris Spencer honoring Culture Shifters Stacy Brown-Philpot (CEO, TaskRabbit), Tyson Clark (General Partner, GV Ventures), Deirdre Findlay (CMO, Stitch Fix), and Chris Young (CEO, McAfee, LLC);
  • A compelling appearance by the multi-talented Sarah Jones

The Culture Shifting Awards luncheon also included an announcement from Culture Shift Labs, along with Dignity Health, Gilead and Stanford Health Care. Together, they are building the nation’s  largest database of healthcare and wellness disrupters of color.
