The Museum of the African Diaspora celebrated it’s 9th annual gala on October 11 at the Four Seasons Hotel in San Francisco. It was a magical evening of cocktails, dinner, performance, dancing and program. The evening kicked off with a cocktail reception including entertainment by Terrence Brewer and Tammy Hall.  The program featured the honoring of Linda Dunham, Chairman Ronald McDonald House Charities; Randall Kline, Founder SFJAZZ; Richard Mayhew, World Renowned Artist and Anna Deavere Smith, Award Winning Actress.  Hon Willie Brown and Brenda Wright served as Honorary Chairs. MoAD Board Member and Vice Chair Deborah Santana and San Francisco fashion icon Wilkes Bashford repeated as this year’s gala co-chairs, and Carolyn Tyler (Anchor/Reporter ABC7 News) was the Mistress of Ceremonies.

This year’s Host Committee: Stacey and Lawrence Bancroft, Jose Cisneros, Caretha and Ken Coleman, Suzanne and Lloyd Dean, Anette Harris and Marc Loupe, Kamala Harris, Yvette Radford and Dede Wilsey.

The gala was immediately followed by the MoAD Lounge After Party, organized by MoAD Vanguard, the museum’s young professionals group, which included performances from the Brazilian All-Stars and D-Lucca Music Group. Proceeds from the Gala support MoAD’s mission to build a deeper understanding of the African Diaspora through art exhibitions, public programs and events that cultivate wonder and excitement about the ways in which our personal histories are connected.
