The Forum is a series of engaging conversations focused on relevant and important topics impacting Bay Area lifestyle, with a focus on the African American community. Inspiring and provocative influencers and experts are invited to participate in open and frank discussions. Guests range from artists, entrepreneurs, and futurists to business leaders, tech pioneers and elected officials.

A hosted (moderated) conversation focused on African American women and healthcare, featuring a guest panel of recognized health care professionals, together in conversation for the first time. Presented by in collaboration with the African American Employee Network.

Lightning Talk Presentations

  • Dr. Glenda Newell-Harris, Regional Medical Director, CorizonHealth – Demystifying the Medical Maze. A roadmap for successful outcomes: demystifying medical care by translating the obscure language of medicine, guiding savvy navigation of the health care system and promoting appropriate advocacy – showing where and how to get help.
  • Tamu Nolfo, Ph.D., Senior Project Manager, Office of Health Equity, State of California – The Assault on Black Women’s Health and the Fight for Health Equity. This talk will explore the social determinants of health, including the stressors of discrimination, environmental conditions, housing and transportation, to discuss the phenomenon of poor health outcomes in Black women despite the assumed protections afforded by income, education and marital status.
