Our Featured Artist:
Maud Alcorn is an author, spoken word artist, and event curator who hails from Oakland, California. Maud’s writing focuses on her experiences as a Black, fat, and queer woman navigating a world that hates all parts of her existence, and her refusal to be anything less than whole. By being both radically transparent and authentic, she has cultivated a lane all her own. Maud has been featured at events for UC Berkeley, The Oakland Peace Festival, and has facilitated workshops for Mills College, UC San Francisco, and The Wing. In 2018, she co-founded ‘Gold Beams’, an organization that curates and hosts eclectic events for Black creatives. Their signature event, ‘Second Mondays’, showcases Black creatives of all mediums. Through her organization, Maud has had the opportunity to be deeper involved in various communities in her hometown. Maud is always working to build, bridge, and be community, and continuously uses her talent as a resource to do so.
