Jenkins Johnson Gallery is pleased to announce Gordon Parks: Legacy, an exhibition exploring Gordon Parks’ collaborations & legacy, the relationships between the works of Gordon Parks, his influences, and the legacy of artists he inspired.

Prominently featured are works by South African artist and activist, Zanele Muholi, and works by Parks that inspired the music of american rapper, Kendrick Lamar. Parks’ photographs continue to influence the current generation of artists demonstrated by Muholi’s series, Faces & Phases, bringing visibility to black lesbians and trans men, as well as the works that inspired scenes in Lamar’s new video, ‘Element‘.

Included are selections from Harlem gang leader, depicting gang leader, Leonard “Red” Jackson, and Invisible Man, inspired by collaboration with Ralph Ellison. Parks’ films, Leadbelly, Half Past Autumn, and Diary of a Harlem Family will be presented. The exhibition is concurrent with BAMPFA’s presentation of Gordon Parks: The Making of an Argument, on display through December 17, 2017.
