On Monday, June 18, 2018 at 7:00 PM Lorraine Hansberry Theatre (LHT) in Association with Project1Voice (P1V) presents a Juneteenth benefit staged reading of FLYIN’ WEST by Pearl Cleage. FLYIN’ WEST will be performed at over 45 African American theater companies, museums and artistic organizations nationwide and abroad as part of P1V’s One Day One Play staged reading event to highlight Black theaters and playwrights.

FLYIN’ WEST is a powerful look at African American women pioneers searching for equality. The play explores the universal themes of determination, feminism, pride and freedom. Set in 1898, the lives of a small group of African American women change as they leave the oppressive South for the West where they settle together in the all-black town of Nicodemus, Kansas. All local proceeds and donations will benefit the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre and help support our 2018-2019 season. The reading will be followed by a reception and silent auction of LHT memorabilia.
