Are you interested in bringing the African Diaspora into your classroom? Throughout the year, MoAD offers a series of FREE Sunday afternoon workshops to teachers and educators. Each workshop covers a different aspect of our permanent exhibition and is an opportunity for teachers to explore how they can integrate MoAD’s resources into their classroom’s curriculum. These workshops also provide an occasion to network with other like-minded professionals in the Bay Area.

Maroon Communities in the African Diaspora. This workshop is centered on the histories of Maroons – Africans who escaped enslavement and formed free communities within the African Diaspora. Participants are asked to think critically about the social, economic, and political challenges maroon communities faced historically, as well as the uneven legacies of these communities in different areas of the African Diaspora. This workshop is designed for teachers of 6-12th Grade, but any educator is welcome to attend.

To attend, please RSVP to education@moadsf.org.
