Tony Saunders, jazz composer, producer and bass player, and known for his soulful smooth jazz and R&B sounds, credits his current success to the fact that he was taught by so many great musical legends. Saunders comes from a musical family. His world famous father, keyboardist Merl Saunders always had a musical career in mind for Tony. Growing up around Fantasy Studios introduced him to many of the great legends that graced those hallways. Herbie Hancock and Sly Stone were among Tony’s early teachers, and Sly gave Tony an organ at the age of ten. At age fourteen Tony began playing the bass. At 17 his first gigs away from his Dad were with Dr John, Les McCann, Esther Phillips, Eric Clapton, Ringo, Randy Crawford, Martha Reeves, Joe Sample and Chaka Kahn.
