#thinkbeauty

Beverly Johnson: “2014 is a milestone year for me. This August marks the 40th anniversary of my 1974 VOGUE cover. And I think that moment was not only huge for breaking the color barrier of a magazine that is the first name in fashion. It was also the door opener to an honest conversation on beauty, one that is capable of seeing the diverse forms in which beauty manifests itself and one that continues to progress to be more inclusive and global consideration. My resolution is to keep that conversation on #thinkbeauty open, allowing it to reach from the glamour of Hollywood and the brilliance of those leaders who remind us to live higher, from Malala Yousafzai to Antoinette Tuff, to everyone. I like to think that we are always live at our best when we live in complete awareness of our inner beauty.”

Fashion + The Arts

Y’Anad Burrell: “Fashion is beyond a passion, it’s my ‘Lifestyle’. This vast industry goes far beyond beautiful clothes and jaw-dropping accessories. It’s one of sexiest industries where style is communicated and translates across generations and cultures both verbally and with non-verbal statements. The infusion and influence that art and technology has made in the fashion industry is extremely exciting and certainly a move of the 21st Century. Over the years I’ve traveled to many runway shows both nationally and internationally, written for several publications as a Fashion Editor/Blogger, instructed at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) and as the Founder & Creative Director of the largest and longest running charity fashion show on the West Coast, Fashion On The Square (FOTS), now in its 10th year, the culmination of those experience is the impetus of this column – Fashion + the Arts. Enjoy!”
